Fight infections and superbugs with homemade pickled garlic

Garlic is one of the most incredible herbs that you will ever have in your kitchen. According to herbalist Rosemary Gladstar, “Were I forced to have only one herb in my kitchen, garlic would be it.”

Food Alchemy Tip

Starting to get the sniffles? Add some minced garlic to the hot oil of your stir fry for some wonderful flavor and an incredible immune system boost. If raw garlic is hard on your stomach then try pickling it to help ease the digestion process. (Note: Pickled garlic has the same medicinal value as raw garlic!)

Fights off Frustrating Diseases

Garlic is great for your immune system! It is loaded with B vitamins, vitamins A and C, as well as magnesium, phosphorus, and potassium. Not only is garlic used in cooking as an incredible flavor enhancer but it is my number 1 choice for fighting colds, flu, and sore throats!

Garlic works its magic by boosting your body’s production of white blood cells which is crucial for fighting off infections. The natural sulfur compounds act as a natural internal and external antiseptic which cleanses as it moves through the body.

This bad boy will jump to your body’s defense against bacteria and will even go toe to toe with many different antibiotic-resistant superbugs. That’s right, something as simple as garlic may help your body fight those nasty infections of bacteria that have grown immune to regular antibiotic medicine.

Garlic kills intestinal worms and lowers blood sugar

Garlic is also known as a vermifuge which means it can kill off intestinal worms. This treatment is said to be good in both humans and animals.

This powerful herb is great for helping our circulatory systems because it can maintain good cholesterol levels while preventing platelet aggregation. Some research has also shown that it helps lower blood sugar, which is great for people with type 2 diabetes.

How to pickle your own garlic

First, you will want to fill a wide mouthed glass jar with whole peeled garlic cloves. Next, add enough tamari and/or apple cider vinegar (for best health benefits use unpasteurized). Place the jar in a warm spot (a nice sunny window) and let it sit for 3-4 weeks.

Once it has sat long enough, you will want to strain off the liquid. Set half of the liquid aside to be used in a tasty marinade or dressing.

Place the rest of the liquid in a saucepan and add an equal amount of honey. Warm over a very low heat, making sure to stir regularly to until the honey is mixed thoroughly.  Now take this sauce and pour it back over the garlic in the jar and recap, allowing to sit for an additional 3-4 weeks.  Now store in a cool, dark location and this awesomeness will be able to keep for a year if not longer, that is, if it lasts that long!

Eat whenever you want to! Pickled garlic is quite delicious, with a pungent, sweet, hot flavor. To take advantage of the amazing benefits of raw garlic, without the fear of any stomach distress that normal raw garlic is known to sometimes cause.

Are there any other awesome concoctions of your own that have been of great use to you?  We would love to have you share it with us in the comments below! May you have a wonderful day that is full of light, love and personal growth.
