I’m sure you have gone to the store to pick out some pills to help alleviate whatever current ailment you have. As you look at the back the package or get your prescription, there is a huge list of ingredients on top of countless side effects from taking the drugs that are designed to help you.
It almost seems that to take medication for a headache, you risk causing so much more side effects that it may be better just to have a headache. I know I have asked the question that is, “is there a medicine that I can take that is just for a headache, and don’t have to worry about destroying my insides?”
A little about Herbal Pills
Herbal pills are not only practical, but they’re also easy to make as well. You can formulate your very own blends and even make them tasty enough that your little ones will happily utilize their healing benefits without too much fuss. They can be so excellent if you are plagued with a sore throat; you can even formulate the with amazing herbs that focus on destroying infections.
Creating herbal pills can be a great project to do with your children. It’s just about everything your kids could want, fun, messy, and very easy to do, on top of that if the kiddos make their own medicine then they may be more prone to take it. For added sweetness carob or cocoa powder is added to these little pill balls to help make this medicine super tasty as well as effective. If your kids are fans of licorice, you could also add it in just to help it taste better.
How to make your own herbal pills
First place your powdered herbs in a bowl and mix them with just enough water and honey (maple syrup if that’s your thing) to make a super sticky paste.
Next, if you like, you can add a tiny drop of essential oil to your mixture as well. Make sure to not add too much, though, as one or two drops will be more than enough. Peppermint or even wintergreen essential oils are always nice flavoring agents. Or if you choose, there are many other essential oils that offer some amazing medicinal benefits as well.
Now you will want to thicken up your mixture with enough carob or unsweetened cocoa powder to be able to form a smooth, thick paste. After that, you will then knead until your dough is as smooth as bread dough. (At least as close as you can possibly get)
As for this step, you will simply break off pieces of the dough and roll them into small little balls, about the size of normal pills. Then roll them in cocoa or carob powder for a finished look, if you like that is.
Dry your pill in a dehydrator, or if you do not have access to one don’t worry, you can simply use the oven. Place your pills on a cookie sheet and put them in the oven at a very low temperature (around 150 degrees, or with just the oven light on. If you are lucky enough to have some dry weather, then you can even dry them in the sun if you wish.
Once your pills are completely dried out, they will keep indefinitely, all you have to do is keep them in glass jars in a dark, cool location.
